Your Gifts At Work

Why should I give financially?

Financial gifts save lives too. Your donations will help patients by strengthening lifesaving programs and initiatives.

Our four focus areas are:

  • Blood
  • Stem Cells
  • Organs and Tissues
  • Research and Innovation

The donors across the country who Give Life with blood donations are truly at the heart of the blood system. Financial donations to Canadian Blood Services help us go above and beyond to make the donation process as comfortable and smooth as possible.

Your donation could help recruit the approximately 100,000 new donors needed each year to meet demand. Or, you could help fund projects that modernize our clinics and provide a better donor experience.

Organs and Tissues

Thousands of Canadians are in need of organ, tissue and eye donations. Hundreds die each year waiting for vital transplants.

When you make a financial gift to this focus area, you could help fund programs that educate and raise awareness for the need for organ and tissue donations. Just one organ donor can save up to eight lives and tissue and eye and tissue donors can improve the lives of up to 75 more!

Stem Cells

Over 80 diseases and disorders can be treated with a stem cell transplant. There are hundreds of patients in Canada waiting for a match, but only 1 in 2 find a match. A financial gift helps build the cord blood bank through the education and recruitment of new moms.

You could also help fund events like Big Swab University to recruit stem cell registrants, or support the Partners for Life program where corporations and community organizations encourage their employees to give blood and stem cells.

Research and Innovation

Canadian Blood Services drives world-class innovation in blood transfusion, cellular therapy and transplantation research. Your financial contribution will support programs such as the Cord Blood for Research program, a brand-new program that promotes research that may one day help leukemia, lymphoma and aplastic anemia patients.

Check out our research impact to learn about current research projects and to see how your financial gift makes a difference in the lives of all Canadians.

Our Stories

Mackenzie and Alexander
When she was a teenager, Mackenzie’s busy life was put on hold when she was diagnosed with a type of pre-leukemia that was quickly evolving into leukemia. She matched with Alexander, a stem cell donor who gave her a second chance at life.
Born 12 weeks early, Nicholas was tiny, frail and had a weak immune system. Read his story and find out how two blood transfusions helped him when he needed it most.
This year alone, 86 blood donors will save Charles's life. Read his story and learn how financial donors are also helping patients like Charles who need ongoing support.
Abby is seven years old and for the next 18 months, she'll receive treatment for precursor B lymphoblastic lymphoma, a type of cancer. Read her story from her dad Drew's perspective and see how financial donors and blood transfusions are part of her story.
Aary and his family’s journey has been difficult, but it’s also hopeful, because hope is what financial support makes possible. We’re grateful to Aary’s mom Jenny for sharing his story with us, and hope that it inspires you as well.
